Advances in digital technology has made it possible to generate, capture, store and disseminate enormous and complex information to varied stakeholders with incredible efficiency and reach. Communication of information is decisive either for knowledge sharing or for crucial decision making both in the business and social concerns. Whereas ubiquitous digital systems are fast replacing every mode of manual transaction and same time are tracing every transaction and supplying users with a colossal data to look into. A need for design intervention is clearly seen at this juncture where the information in all its complexity is to be transformed into insightful nuggets that are comprehended easily by the stakeholders. Information Design program at NID is a multidimensional program that synchronizes the fields of design, visual aesthetics, computer science, statistics and humanities to inculcate a transdisciplinary proficiency into the future Information Design professionals.

The Information Design Program aims to create competent design professionals who are adept in varied domains of Information Design, User Interface Design and User Experience Design. The program intends to equip them with the know-how of transforming complex information and data into clarified user experiences on different digital platforms that lead to effective knowledge and insight generation.

The M.Des program in Information Design spans a 2.5 years duration of 5 semesters. The students begin with the fundamentals of Design and navigate through multidisciplinary research and processes from the domains of Design, Business, Social Sciences. The students learn the tools of imaging technology, information processing and catch up with relevant programming software. The students are exposed to courses in UI-UX design, visual design, information graphics, interactive information visualization, thematic cartography and geo visualization making them well versed with the finer nuances of building pertinent and innovative, interactive experiences for information communication.

The Program looks for students who are keen observers, have a strong aesthetic sense and are passionate about the visual design. The student should love to crunch numbers in complex information environment and at the same time be motivated to identify patterns and concepts within to communicate the same in a user friendly interactive visualization. The student should imbibe the qualities of empathy and a visual flair to be able to extract and present a non-judgmental view of realities.
