Mayank Loonker is a Faculty of Communication Design at NID. He regularly teaches in department of Exhibition Design, New Media Design and Design Foundation Program.
He studied Exhibition Design, from the National Institute of Design, India. Mayank has 10 years of experience in design teaching, consultancy and research.
Prior to joining NID as a Faculty in 2013, Mayank worked as an Exhibition Designer at Lord Cultural Resources where he was responsible for design of exhibitions for Museums. Earlier, in 2008 he founded Real Monkey Design Studio, a multidisciplinary design studio in Ahmedabad consulting on Branding, Visual Identity, Branded Spaces, Events, Websites and Motion Graphics. From February 2006 to July 2007 he worked as a Retail and Exhibition Designer at Glue Design Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, designing and developing experience for Retail stores, Events, and Exhibitions.
He academic and professional interests include exhibition design, information spaces, interaction design, experience design, ethnography, participatory design and design education. His future interest is in exploring future of exhibitions as co-created community spaces through maker culture, pop-up format and user generated content / data.
He has also been involved in various research and consultancy projects. Some of the recent ones are design of a Digital Exhibition on Life of Sardar Patel and Museum on life of Swami Vivekananda housed in a 150 year old Heritage Palace at Khetri, Rajasthan.
In recent years he has been actively involved with studios with students for Exhibit Design, Spatial Experience Design, Content Based Exhibition Design. He has also been conducting workshops on Interactive Media for Exhibitions, Visualisation, Scenography, and Co-creation. He has been also teaching Environmental Perception which focuses on learning from world around us, to Design Foundation students.
