Subir Dey

Subir received a degree in Bachelor of Visual Arts with specialization in Graphic Design from Govt. College of Art and Craft Calcutta in 2009. He completed Master of Visual Arts from M.S University Baroda with specialization in Illustration. He also taught in Applied Arts department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda. Later in 2013, he enrolled for PhD in the Department of Design, IIT Guwahati. He has submitted thesis on the topic ‘Sound Symbolic Words in Indian Comic Books’.

He has published in International Journal of Comic Arts and his research articles also appear in other national and international academic publications. He has received distinguished paper award in ICoRD 2015. He received Volkswagen foundation scholarship to attend a summer school on Transnational Graphic Narratives in University of Siegen, Germany in 2017.

Recently, he has joined National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad as an Associate faculty in the discipline of Graphic Design. He is also the Co-lead of the discipline. He is a practicing illustrator working in traditional and digital media. Along with practice, he is interested in design research, writing and publications. His research areas of interest include comics and graphic novels, visual language, visual semiotics, visual culture & narratives, illustration and design.
