Sucharita Beniwal

Sucharita is a faculty in Textile Design Discipline. She is a 2003 Textile Design alumnus from NID. She worked for Neeru Kumar on handloom weaving and surface development for niche markets. She also created collections for the prestigious Masion et object fair and Heimtextil.

She has ethnographic and qualitative research experience and has worked on fieldwork projects in Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Varanasi area, Kutch, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. She has quantitative research experience gained through her work on Colour Perception with Asian Paints and in Health Care while working for Public Health foundation of India and the National Health System Resource Centre (National Institute of Health & Family Welfare).

She completed her M.Des. in Social Design from Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD) in 2016. Prior to her joining NID as a full time faculty, she has taught design courses as visiting faculty at NIFT Delhi, NID Paldi and Gandhinagar, and craft-based school Kalaraksha Vidyalaya and Somaiya Kala Vidyalaya.

Her research interests include colour-perception, handloom weaving, bottom-up learning’s and community adaptive practices.
