Sudip Adhikary

Mr. Sudip Adhikary is an Associate Faculty at NID in the field of Industrial Design since 2017. He has done his M.Des in Industrial Design from IDC, IIT Bombay and also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. Prior to joining NID, Sudip has undergone two years of Design Teachers Development Program (formerly Faculty Development Programme) from NID.

Sudip has a decade-long industrial experience in various design domain including Product, Lighting, Retail & Space and Identity Design. As a lead designer he has handled projects for organisations like Add- O-Graphy (Kolkata based Retail design and Production Farm) and Design Lipi Projects Pvt. Ltd. Mentionable projects include Design of Next Generation Light Lounge for Philips and Design of Storage Unit and Universal Shelving Design for ITC Ltd, Retail Design for Godrej and Boys, and Packaging Design for Eveready.

He worked as a Research Assistant in IDC IIT on the project E-Kalpa for project D. Source (online teaching-learning platform). His areas of research and teaching consist of Lighting Design, Form and Aesthetic, Representation Techniques, Computer Aided Design and Elements of Design. His Master’s thesis was based on Lighting Ambience design dealing with the understanding and effect of light and colour on human psychology incorporating experiments on physical properties of light while interacting with different geometrical patterns, form and computer generated surfaces.

He currently teaches Design Fundamentals, Basic Material, Combination of Material, Design Drawing, Analytical Drawing, Media Appreciation, Environmental Perception, Space Form Structure, and Design Process in Design Foundation Studies at NID. He has also contributed to Form, Studio Skills, and Design Project in Product Design Discipline and Packaging Design in Ceramic Design Discipline. An educator from Industrial design background with a multi-domain knowledge and keen interest in design fundamentals courses and generic capabilities, Sudip believes in multidisciplinary and practice-based teaching-learning approach in design academia. Presently he is studying and researching on computer generated algorithmic form generation process. Apart from these, Sudip is a self-taught artist practicing Painting and Photography.
