My project was to make a communication tool for an audience ranging from government functionaries to villagers, which would express the need for health insurance.
Statistics reveal that the private sector accounts for 82% of all out patient visits and 52% of all hospitalizations. The poor are much less likely to get hospitalised than the rich, mainly because of the inability to pay and lack of insurance; those above the poverty line have more than double the hospitalization rates of the poor. Those hospitalised spend 58 percent of their total annual expenditure on health care. More than 40 percent of hospitalised people borrow money or sell assets to cover expenses.
GTZ HSS wanted to initiate a sense of responsibility and equity amongst the people of a community and bring them together to create a pool where people contribute and invest a small amount for difficult times. It is a kind of social health security; the pool acts as a common benefactor which can help anyone in distress. Other stakeholders like the government, established NGOs and developing partners, support it. We plan to do field testing and prototyping in the coming months.
The project suited my urge of working for a cause. It motivated me to think out of the animation box. It also showed me a world outside of design, which I think is a great necessity for overall growth of any individual. |
