Jury Members

Jonak Das

Jonak Das, Discipline Lead, Exhibition Design discipline, NID, Ahmedabad had joined the institute as a faculty in 2016.

He had graduated from NID in 1999 in Industrial Design, having specialized in Product Design. Since then he has had over eighteen years of professional experience in the domain of Spatial Environment, Products and Experience design, as well as Branding and Communication design – and has worked on over  fifty projects in the domains of Museum, Exhibition, Interior (Retail, Office and Hospitality), Signage systems, Environmental branding and Event design and developing products and  systems for these sectors.

He has worked with various design firms based in Delhi – Design Habit, Kaaru, Itu Chaudhuri Design and lastly Lopez Design, where he was the Project Director, before joining NID. He has also been teaching as a visiting faculty at various institutes in India, at both undergraduate and post graduate levels, and in various departments. Craft is another sector that Jonak has been working in. He has done product development projects for private firms, institutes and NGOs as a consultant, and worked as a research associate and field researcher on the NID publication - The Handbook of Handicrafts.

At NID, Jonak has been taking courses in Exhibition, Foundation and Product design – on Spatial Design, Materials, Geometry and Form. Design of Learning environments and Pedagogical processes, structure & methodology for design as well as for school education, are his primary research interests. He is an avid reader and loves to travel.

Swagata Naidu

Swagata is a faculty with the Ceramic and Glass design discipline, which comes under the larger domain of Industrial design, at the national institute of design, Ahmedabad. She received her bachelors in architecture from SCET, Surat and persued masters in ceramic and glass design from NID Ahmedabad before eventually returning to NID to teach in 2010.

Owing to her interest in paper folding and mathematics, she teaches geometry to the under graduate students in there foundation year. In her core discipline she teaches courses related to design, materials and elements of space. She has headed projects related to glass or ceramics based crafts of the country and has handled many administrative responsibilities at NID.

Her interests range from mountaineering, baking cakes, exploring new places for its architectural and cultural heritage, eco friendly practises in architecture and so on and so forth.

Mr. Diwakar. R

Diwakar currently heads Marketing at Saint Gobain India’s Glass Business. He has been associated with various categories of building materials as well as décor categories during his work experience over the last 12 years. He holds a management degree from IIM Lucknow and an engineering degree in computer science.

Suruchi Apte

Suruchi is a Co Creator at Contrast which is a Singapore headquartered Design company having offices in India.

Suruchi is an Architect and Workplace Designer with over 15 years of experience. She is a talented designer who is able to create innovative concepts and transform into design realities that consistently meet client’s brief. She is outstanding with space planning, documentation and personnel management as well as business development

She has an extensive portfolio of leading organisations in the commercial design sector. A few of the clients include WPP Group, FCB Ulka, Consulate of Australia, British Council, Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays, Firmenich Aromatics etc

Suruchi has a track record of delivering projects successfuly with translating her design into enjoyable work environments
