Short fiction and documentary films, not-less-than 5 minutes and not-more-than 30 minutes long (original production length - no modified versions will be entertained), will be eligible to participate in the Alpavirama 2016 South Asian Competition Section.

The film(s) should have been produced on or after 1st August, 2014 and should have been directed by a young person (under 30 years, at the time of making his/her film), who is a citizen of and ordinarily resident in any of the following countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka).

The subject matter of the film should also broadly deal with South Asia, the land and its people,and their lives.

Films made in languages other than English should have subtitles in English.

Animation films are not eligible.

Submission Date

Last date for receiving the completed entry form, along with the preview material (DVDs/online download link) is 15th July, 2016 (Friday).

In case of the preview copy of the submitted short fiction/documentary being available online for download and/or viewing, the filled and signed entry form can also be scanned and emailed to alpavirama@nid.edu, along with digital copies of film & director stills, by 15th July, 2016 (Friday). In all such cases no physical material needs to be additionally couriered/posted.

Selected Films

Each film selected for the South Asian Competition will be screened at least once during the festival. The South Asian Competition Jury would comprise of eminent individuals selected from the fields of cinema, arts, culture and academics, from India and Asia.

Four major (The Golden & Silver Commas, Fiction and The Golden & Silver Commas, Documentary) awards will be given out at the end of the South Asian Competition, carrying a cash component as well as a trophy. Special Mention Certificates may also be given, at the sole discretion of the Jury. All films selected for the South Asian Competition will get a Certificate of Participation.
