National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, takes great pride in informing that 'Bharat ki Pehchan' a collection of souvenirs made by the students of the NID, Ahmedabad, was taken to the International Space Station (ISS) during the Axiom-4 mission (25 June - 15 July) of our Indian astronaut and mission pilot, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla (Shux).
The compilation of design work and their stories were recently shared with the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, by Captain Shukla upon his return to India.
Earlier, ISRO had shared the design brief and students from NID Ahmedabad enthusiastically participated in this ISRO–NASA memorabilia design brief. Total 55 student teams submitted their entries, resulting in over 200 design and object ideas, which were further submitted to the ISRO team for selection. Out of these, 16 creative and well-designed objects each celebrating Indian culture, craft, and inspiring stories from India’s space journey, while meeting the brief’s technical, dimensional, and material constraints, safe for antigravity environment were thoughtfully chosen. Details of these 16 creative design objects and student designers are attached herewith.
HSFC Director, ISRO facilitated NID students and faculty in this endeavour and Dr Ashok Mondal, Director, NID Ahmedabad and Prof Vijai Singh Katiyar, Activity Chairperson Education encouraged all the participants and faculty throughout the project. Vipul Vinzuda, Senior Faculty, Transportation & Automobile Design discipline, led this project with the students, other faculty members and team ISRO.
