The film explores the relationship between two women - the grand parent and her grandchild, both protagonists of the film. Beginning with the very obvious one of blood relation and family ties, their relationship goes through a sea change; from treating each other as grandmother and grandchild, they start looking at each other as individual women with independent identities. The two characters also go through a transformation themselves in order to cope with the different milieus they are in.
Mira Nair’s ‘Namesake’ donated 11,000 ft of unused film stock. Neeraj Sahay offered to do the cinematography for free. That is when it all began. After this, there was begging and pleading at practically every stage of the film. The good thing is that a lot of people helped, and the bad thing is that a lot of unexpected expenses were incurred. Since I wasn’t paying for half the processes, the post-production also took a really long time. But finally, I think the film looks good, and all the effort was worth it.
This film would not have happened had it not been my diploma film. The many and varied flavours that come only from student films would never have seen the light of day otherwise. The struggle and hardships that I put myself through would have probably not happened either. The journey, although full of obstacles, was a beautiful one. Every step posed a new hurdle and every success marked a new learning. |
