Theme of 42nd Convo: Collective Intelligence: For Me, You, Us; For People, Planet, Futures

Theme Explanation:

Design is contextual, it has the potential to spark awareness and transformation within a community. In a world of material abundance and technological innovation, design is not just a process of creation but also of simplification, mediation and most importantly, navigation towards the right direction. We are stronger and smarter together, harnessing the power of collective intelligence to explore new hybrid modes of learning and creating across geographies, ideologies and disciplines.

About the Identity:

The symbolic identity of the 42nd convocation has small, irregular shapes that create a shimmering circle, conveying NID’s conviction in meaningful design and in expanding the focus from individual achievement to the larger whole we all function within. The colours convey warmth that comes from inclusivity and the circles emanating outwards a gesture of hope.

Design and the City The National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad: 1962-2022

An exhibition in the Panorama gallery marking the sixtieth year of the National Institute of Design. How does a place shape an institution? What does the institution learn from its environs? And what imprints does it leave on the palimpsest that is the city? We bring materials from its archives and Knowledge Management Centre that provide a rich account of the institute’s multi-layered engagements with the city of Ahmedabad. The Archives at NID Ahmedabad is a place for inquiry and inspiration that enriches people's lives by promoting research, knowledge and enjoyment of the designed world. It collects, preserves and provides access to the collections, opening up the archives for interrogation and interpretation.

Mediated Lines - Annual Design Show 2022

Mediated Lines, Annual design show 2022 presents work done by students in graduation projects and classroom projects in the past academic year, produced in NID Ahmedabad and extension campuses of Gandhinagar and Bengaluru.
The exhibition seeks to highlight moments where learners engage in negotiating their positions, processes and outcomes. The theme alludes to the many facets that designers mediate in the many worlds that they inhabit, question and act in. The design works are reframed through thematics of converging, diverging, emerging, inverting and othering. It is exhibited in the aquarium, outer faculty lounge and boardroom spaces at the National Institute of Design, Paldi Campus, Ahmedabad
