Dr. Ashish is currently affiliated with the Product Design discipline at NID Ahmedabad, India. Prior to joining NID, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Accessary Design Department at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and the School of Design at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Vellore, India. Additionally, he held a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Design at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India. He obtained his doctorate in Ergonomics from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, focusing on the development of low-cost hand tool interventions for handicraft workers. Dr. Ashish holds a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rajasthan. Apart from academics and research, he also worked in a couple of industries for around 4 years.
His teaching and research interests primarily revolve around human factors and ergonomics, with a focus on areas such as occupational health, human response to noise and vibration, noise and cognition, and cognitive ergonomics (human information acquisition and processing). He has been an advocate of the importance of data-driven design. Dr. Ashish specializes in setting up lab and lab-in-field experiments, and data analysis. He is currently expanding his research scope to include human psychology, particularly exploring how human perception influences product preferences and dislikes. Driven by his passion for exploration, he perceives researchers as 'endangered species chasing the unknown.':-)
Dr. Ashish has also contributed to academic literature, with over 35 research articles published in renowned international journals and refereed conferences. He has filed/published one utility patent and 2 design registrations so far. He actively serves as a reviewer for multiple reputable journals and is a life member of the Indian Society of Ergonomics and the Institution of Engineers. Beyond academia, he enjoys traveling and learning new things from different online learning platforms.
