My animation film is about a burning social issue. The film is about a farmer who leaves his village for the city where he becomes a rickshaw puller to earn his livelihood, but finds out that the city has no space for him.
The story shows the difference between Hyderabad of the past and the present, the disparity between the rich and poor, and how technology is dominating and displacing human power. It seeks to show people’s mad rush to gain luxuries by usurping the basic needs of others’ and apathy to people dying of hunger somewhere in the world.
After hearing of farmer suicides in my state, I wanted to show the darker side of the so called Hi-tech city where people still suffer from poverty. We have completed 60 years of independence, but those who produce food for the nation are dying of hunger.
To support my concept most of the data came from information gathered from interaction with village folk, news reporting of different media —newspapers, TV, debate sessions telecast on television, recording interviews of various people, and NGOs etc, attending campaigns conducted by political parties, and also through the internet. Since my animation film is in documentary style to communicate effectively, live footage helped me in my mixed media style.
This project helped me to study the conditions of the poor especially in Telangana. It also increased my confidence to handle projects individually. |
