This film was an urge, a dream which tugged at my daily life for seven years from Santiniketan to NID, where I finally worked on it.
My film is based on the few moments and memories of a boy, Somnath, who is standing on the bridge Kopai. He is one among those few people who throughout their lives live in the world of recollection and imagination rather than realities. Some moments, which I wove into the film are placed close to harsh realities of life, emotional crisis and offer a little hope.
The film enabled me to strengthen my own skills and widen them. I found the possibility of expressing myself and also to permanently preserve a certain time period of Santiniketan, its people and its quintessential nature. I got the chance to work on my own idea, and had the scope to explore more of animation film making aspects: from the core concept to the narrative part, up to the final film along with all the other visuals, sound effects etc.
Besides the scripting, storyboarding, this film was done in 2D process, which included the traditional tempera technique of watercolour, drawing on paper, fine-tuning in Photoshop, 3D MAX for river, and finally compositing and editing in after-effects.
This was my first step on the long journey of a filmmaker’s life, and I became the maker and definer of my own images. |
