This four minute animation film is an attempt to create an imaginative and reflective fiction film and to metaphorically convey the life and attitude of human beings. The film is about a gang of mosquitoes, who after a lot of planning, plotting and convincing set out to rob a blood bank.
The pre-production process began with scripting. For character designing, I explored many different styles in which the mosquitoes could be represented and eventually settled for the simplest. Deciding the look and feel was a tough task. At first I had planned to play with the background paper colour and render the foreground with pencil colours. Then I decided to use brown packaging paper and render with black ink. Eventually, I settled for just pencil on white paper. As regards, production, I finished the animation in ten days flat. All the 900 frames needed to be scanned so that post production work could start on it. Post-production began with clean-up and colour, followed by compositing, editing, music and sound.
Sometime in the future, I plan to make this a feature length film. There was a lot to learn from this film, especially in terms of script. Going back and forth between stages, going back to research time and again, was vital. I realised that making an animation film requires a lot of patience and passion, and this is what I want to live with for the rest of my life. |
